Expanded Tutoring in the Library

This term, tutoring services offered on the 2nd floor of the Library will expand significantly, both in the breadth of subjects covered and the hours they are available. The schedule is as follows, and will begin Wednesday April 1:

Portland State: A History in Pictures

Join us in celebrating the launch of Portland State: A History in Pictures on Friday, April 24, 2009!

The event will be held 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm on the second floor of Branford P. Millar Library at 1875 SW Park Avenue in Portland.

Three years in the making, the book Portland State: A History in Pictures, features more than 300 color and black-and-white photographs that document Portland State's history, events, and people from its early days as a temporary extension center to the nationally recognized urban research university that it is today. Join us at the Library to help celebrate and see if you can recognize any of your old classmates or professors!

A project of the Retired Association of Portland State (RAPS), Portland State: A History in Pictures was written by Richard Sanders'57, with photo editing by Brent Schauer with text editing by Charles White, Professor Emeritus, and Clarence Hein '65.

The Portland State Library in collaboration with Retirement Association of Portland State and the PSU Alumni Association invites you to attend this Inauguration event for President Wim Wiewel.

 
 
 

Free Coffee Sunday night during finals week!

Bring your cup to the Library on Sunday night, 3/15, at 9:00 p.m. for free coffee sponsored by Starbucks, while supplies last. Using your own mug always helps reduce waste and your coffee will stay warm longer than in a paper cup!

More math tutoring coming in Spring Term!

The Skills Enhancement and Tutoring Center (SETC), in collaboration with the Portland State University Library, will expand hours for math tutoring in the Library this Spring Term. In addition to the current hours Monday and Tuesday evenings from 4:30-7:00 PM, the Center will offer Sunday hours 1:00 - 5:00 PM. The tutor is located on the second floor, behind the reference desk area. Thanks to SETC for providing this expanded service to students!

Alton Takiyama-Chung’s Documentary, Okage Sama De is showing at the Fifth Avenue Cinema in Portland.

Through the history-based stories of five Japanese American men, Alton Takiyama-Chung explores the complexity of the Japanese American experience during World War II from the U.S. internment camps to the front lines in Europe and the Pacific. Takiyama-Chung introduces the film and answers questions.

Presented by Portland State Library & Multnomah County Libraries. Donations to the Oregon Food Bank accepted at the door.

Library Featured in MyPSU Portal

Students and employees can join the much-anticipated myPSU portal on the Web, and access Library resources and services easily through the Library Tab. The new interface is a one-stop site for all PSU information and communications, including Banweb, employment, and news.

First time users need to initially synchronize their Portland State computer accounts at http://oam.pdx.edu. Once synchronized, using an Odin ID and new password, students and employees can go to http://my.pdx.edu and immediately use and customize their portal site.

Stafford Birthday Celebration

A Gathering of Portland Poets
Come and celebrate William Stafford’s Birthday with Portland poets reading their favorite Stafford poems and a few of their own. Poets include Shelley Reece, Michelle Glazer, Verlena Orr, and Portland State graduate students Michael Achterman, Kate Bucko and Chris Cottrell.

William Stafford (January 17, 1914 – August 28, 1993) was a poet and member of the Lewis & Clark College faculty. He won a National Book Award (1963), was named Consultant in Poetry to the Library of Congress (1970), and named Oregon Poet Laureate (1975).

Living the Legacy: The Avel Gordly Papers

As part of the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration at Portland State University, the Library will display key pieces from the Honorable Senator Avel Gordly's archives from Special Collections.

The exhibit can be viewed on the first floor of the Library from January 12 - April 22, 2009.
